Saturday Night Dinner in Atlanta

Valyn Feb 18, 2009 01:03 PM

I'm coming to Atlanta in March and will have dinner with an old friend who lives in Atlanta but doesn't get out much. I've had a look at a few places in Midtown where we'll stay, so I'd like Atlanta 'hounds' input:

One Midtown Kitchen
South City Kitchen

I'm looking for mid-range prices, and Euro, Latin or American cuisine. My dining companion is not particularly adventurous but is willing to try new things.

Let me know what you think about these, and if you've got any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

For that price range in Midtown, I ALWAYS recommend Repast or 4th & Swift.

Of the 4 you've listed, I'd maybe hit South City Kitchen... but let me preface that by saying the chef that USED to be there, Jay Swift opened (maybe obviously) 4th & Swift.

      Agreed on Repast. Great great.

From your list I would suggest Ecco.

What about Pura Vida or Tierra? Not exactly midtown, but close.

Thanks to you both. We have reservations at 4th & Swift, and I can't wait!

I'm happy to say our dinner at 4th & Swift was excellent. The food was well done and sophisticated, although the service could have been a bit more professional. I was quite surprised at how empty it was on a Friday night at 7:30, and we closed the restaurant at 10:30. The location was weird too. I'm an Atlanta native but haven't lived there since 1995. That area used to be a no-man's land, and frankly still looks it. Our cabbie didn't know the restaurant, and I wasn't surprised. But I don't regret the dinner, that's for sure. Thanks for the rec!
