LOS is a James Beard Award Semi-finalist [Moved from Southwest Board]
Saipin Chutima is among the semi-finalist nominees for Best Chef Southwest for the annual James Beard awards.
It's a long list, but still quite an honor for a strip mall restaurant beloved on this board.

This is the second year in a row for Saipin, who was a finalist in the same category last year. A well-deserved honor, and also nice to see that someone working from a small store-front in an old strip mall (there was a resolution passed in November to level all of Commercial Center in favor of new development, but in these economic times it is tabled indefinitely) can get that level of recognition.
The other Las Vegas chefs nominated are Paul Bartolotta and Claude le tohic at Joel Robuchon. The shortlist contains 20 nominees in each category, and the finalists will be announced on March 23.
I never understand the vagaries of year-to-year ups and downs in the Beard Awards, but I'm sure proud of Saipin and Bill at Lotus, who have no publicist, no consultant Not even a listing in the Yellow Pages.
