David Kamp was interviewed on The Splendid Table this past Saturday and mentioned a Spanish wine that sells for $12ish but tastes $40ish. I was driving so didn't have a pen handy and it's since escaped me. I can download the podcast but thought someone here might have heard this too? Any help?

Jumilla is a DO (Denomination of Origin), not a particular wine.

If you look up david kamp's website, he actually mentions the wine since obviously he had lots of inquiries: 2006 Olivares Altos De La Hoya from Jumillla, Spain. I see it on wine-searcher for as low as $8.99!

Dan Kravitz's Handpicked Selections also imports Panarroz Jumilla that sells for $8 to $10 a bottle and is quite nice. It's mostly mourvedre.

I heard that too and I would go with David's specific recommendation as somebody points out below, and not just with any wine from Jumilla...Jumilla is a large D.O. with many producers, and lots of varying levels of quality (just like any wine producing region).

For another good Jumilla wine, you can try the Bodegas Juan Gil Monastrell, should be about $15 give or take. Finca Luzon, a Monastrell-based blend, is also very decent for about $8 or $9 a bottle.
