Good neighborhood places for my trip out to SF

  • n

I am coming out to the Bay Area for a few days, staying in San Francisco. I'm interested in finding the neighborhood restaurants that have absolutely amazing food. Doesn't have to be fancy, just really tasty, heart food.

Any suggestions? I'll have a car so I don't mind driving a little. Thanks!

we had the olives & a manchego cheese plate to start. they have great sourdough.
both had the chopped salad, excellent.
husband had the short ribs & i had the pork milanese.
shared a bittersweet chocolate pot de creme.

i think their menu changes a lot.

      2. Try L'Ardoise in Duboce Triangle. It is tucked away on a really pretty tree lined street and they serve French bistro style food. I would also search out Chez Spencer. It is more contemporary French and I consider it to be one of the best hidden gems in SF.

Never been there. But thinking about a hidden nieghborhood french bistro reminds me... has anyone been to South Park Cafe recently? My wife used to work near there and I loved the place, both the food and the ambiance. But that was a while ago. I wouldn't expect it to change, but I'm curious what other's think.

I went there for the first time during the recent Dine About Town promotion and it was great, all around, food, service, atmosphere. The are California-infulenced middle eastern.

          1. Canteen for dinner. Looks like a diner with amazing food.
Takara, Maki, or SPQR in Fillmore/Japantown area.
Laiola or A16 in the Marina.
Incanto is in a nice neighborhood.
Not in the same class as above, but Park Chow, Koo, Lime Tree Cafe, Hotei are good and inexpensive in the inner sunset if you are planning a trip to the Park.
