The Inn at Dos Brisas: Washington, TX
Just ate here on Sunday, I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned on here yet. I took my girlfriend to the Sunday brunch and the whole experience was well worth the hour drive from Houston. The food was phenomenal and the service was superb as well. On par with any of the great restaurants in the country. The food was very fresh (I was told it was picked that day) and the plates were original. Even brunch featured the amuse bouche and surprise courses that I love as part of a fine dining experience. I started with the Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon which was surprisingly good, the salmon didn't overpower the delicate egg. My girlfriend had a blue crab salad with mango puree. We're originally from the east coast and are usually wary of crab anywhere but Maryland. This was one of the best crab dishes we've ever had.
For our main course, I ordered the homemade gnocchi and she ordered the tilefish. The gnocchi was the most delicate I've ever had. It melted in my mouth. It was tossed in a parmesan cream sauce with mini vegetables (perfect ratio of sauce: gnocchi: vegetables) . Her tilefish was seared on one side, with a well seasoned crust and delicate white center. She raved about hers, we argued over who had the best order.
Lucky for us their new pastry chef had just arrived. In addition to awesome muffins, breads, croissants etc throughout the meal the desserts were killer. I had a crepe with dark melted chocolate in the center. My girl had a cannolini (sp?) which was like a thin sugary cannoli. It was filled with an orange marscarpone cheese. By this time we were so full but had to eat it all.
In addition, perhaps our favorite part of the meal was the cocktails. I'm a bloody mary afficionado and their version was awesome. Our other favorite drink was a lemonade with a creamy foam on top (not sure how they did it or what was involved but it was great).
Anyway, sorry I got a little carried away but I had to relive that whole meal haha. I'm interested in other people's meals or experiences here, especially dinner. We'll be making another trip out there for sure.
Their other menus are listed on their website (dosbrisas.com) as well as info about their rooms. Has anyone stayed here or know anything about them?
Heard about this place but have not been. It seems like a very odd place to have high end hotel and restaurant? its not the first place, or even the 10th place I think about when I am going out of town. Still, from all I have seen, I have been tempted to trying it someday.

Any other word on this place. I think we are planning on doing Thanksgiving here and have heard great things about it -- which I hope is true after seeing the room rates.

The Inn at Dos Brisas is the only Relais & Chateaux in Texas. Other restaurants in the country part of Relais & Chateaux include The Inn at Little Washington (Outside Washington DC -- Patrick O'Connell is the chef, and is an amazing dining experience) and Daniel in New York. We have been meaning to make the trek down to Washington, TX, but from Dallas its a hike, not to mention staying at the Inn is quite the extravagance (if spending $$ on dinner wasn't enough), so we'll have to wait for a very special occasion to make it happen.
