Nathan's Hot Dogs at retail????

Midlife Feb 16, 2009 10:38 PM

Searched here, Googled, and went to their site and the site of Specialty Foods Group that seems to make them. No luck.

I'm pretty sure I've seen (or at least heard of) Nathan's Kosher dogs for sale at SoCal markets. Where would I look, especially in Orange County?

Thanks.

Ralph's, Albertsons and maybe Smart & Final.

5 minutes! I love these boards. I shop regularly at an Albertson's and aRalphs that don't have them, so I'll makes some calls.

I buy them at Vons and Costco has them, too.

I'm not such a fan of Nathan's (they always taste slightly rancid to me) but Albertson's definitely carries them.

Just yesterday I found, for the first time in LA, Nathan's with the natural casings at Gelson's in Pasadena. Around $5 for the package - had 2 for dinner last night and they were great.
Yes, the skinless ones can be found at most major supermarkets.

The ones at Albertson's have natural casings.

Aha! Never lived close to an Albertson's - that is probably why I have not seen them since I look for them in almost every grocery store I go into! Thanks!

Have you tried Sabrett franks? Same snap but more garlicky flavor. I've now seen them at a few supermarkets around town.

Yes! The Dog House in La Crescenta serves them. They are good and have nice flavor! I love the ones they sell at Schreiner's Deli in Glendale (Montrose). They are really good. Also, the PS (or whatever the store brand is at Ralph's) has a great natural casing wiener - so good! Not where all the other hot dogs are, but where the packaged ground beef, pork and chicken are.

They're at the Mayfair/Gelson's in Hollywood (Franklin & Bronson), too. I bought some last week.

Unfortunately only skinless. Not Kosher or natural casing.

Thanks for all the input. I didn't know about the skinless/casing/kosher triumverate when I posted. I'm sure I'll find them now and know what I'm looking for when I do. Gotta have the snap!!!

Now, is there anywhere in LA to get Old Milwaukee (or is it Old Wisconsin) brand dogs? By brother lives in WI and says he likes them better than all the others. Got it, it is Old Wisconsin - and they list some stores here that supposedly sell them.
