  1. Try Aquagrill on Spring st.

    1. Jack's Luxury Oyster bar is nice, 2nd ave and 6th st. They also offer some unique preparations.

Schaffer city is great too, a traditional type place.. 22nd and 5th, somewhere right near there.

Do you like Louisiana Oysters raw? When I was in New Orleans I could hardly stomach them. But when broiled in the shell, or whatever it is they do, they were fantastic.

FYI: 5 Points has a daily Oyster happy hour. Here is a great post about all the oysster happy hours: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/374278

like our long island blue points, oysters in new orleans are best consumed in the winter. heck, casamento's closes up shop in the summer because the oysters are so crummy then.

deb and i were in acme awhile back. we were jawing with the shucker behind the bar, talking oysters, likes/dislikes and our universal disdain for those sorry specimens from apalachicola. i was bragging on the sweetness and plumpness of our blue points. i told him i get them the size of my fist. he took that as a challenge, found the biggest/best he had in the house and comped us a dozen. sweet!

oysters in new orleans and comedy have a lot in common. it's all about timing.

that's generally the rule, but up here the waters are still cold conmpared to NOLA. The ones at ACME that are ooked. Do u know how they do them? If I remember correctly they were broild, but with something in/on top.

              1. re: 2slices

i've only had raw oysters at acme.

        2. I always recommend Blue Ribbon brasserie in Soho.

They lack the huge selection of oyster varieties you'll find at Aquagrill, just down the block; but the two or three kinds they offer are superb, and the atmosphere unbeatable

and, yes, they offer those luxurious raw bar towers, if you want to spend $$$$

          1. We are making a short (Sat - Mon) trip to NYC this weekend and are looking for interesting places to enjoy some nice oysters & a drink perhaps before dinner.

Any new suggestions? Our hotel will be in mid-town.

For mid-town, Grand Central Oyster Bar. Check schedule; not sure about Sunday hours. As noted many times on this board, Grand Central has plenty of atmosphere and an excellent variety of oysters. Other stuff on their giant menu is hit or miss (although their clam chowder and oyster pan roast do have fans). Full bar available.

Thank you! We did enjoy a good weekend there that weekend. : )
