I'm craving a falafel sandwich! Any suggestions where I can find a really good, freshly made one in Richmond? Thanks!

  1. Go to the Jewish Food Festival! It's being held at Keneseth Beth Israel, 6300 W. Patterson Avenue and is open today until 7:30pm! It's good stuff. Otherwise you might try Mezza on Main Street near VCU.

    1. I like the falafel at The Phonecian: http://thephoenicianrestaurant.com/ho...

        in the west end:
there's a place on patterson just west of parham that is pretty good. i like it better than at mediterranean bakery on quioccasan (sp?). i believe it's called istanbul (it changed names) - good fresh homemade stuff. mediterranean bakery isn't bad either though.

I've been wondering about that place. I go past it when I go to Fresh Market or Tuckahoe Seafood.

some of their homemade dishes are fabulous - but honestly i keep forgetting which ones since they're different since they changed hands. but it's VERY homemade and seems authentic based at food i've had at friends houses. my kids like it too. never a lot of people though so if you get a chance - check it out. now i'm feeling motivated to stop by. it's been a while! :)

The owner is Turkish I know and makes everything herself. I haven't tried it either but I want to.

I've always wondered about Istanbul. Looks like I'll definitely have to stop by and give it a try.

so i went in today since this post made me crave it. the place looks lovely - she's really changed it around. the bread was heavenly and the falafel was really good. haven't tried everything else i brought home yet but the owner is lovely. really nice.

I have got to get there in the next week. I wish I worked closer to there.

        2. Coliseum Deli on W. Broad near VCU. It looks dive-y from the outside, but the food is great.

          1. Thanks for the suggestions! I'll check a few of these out in the coming weeks. Speaking of mediterranean cusine, has anyone tried Aziza's on Main?

            1. I also have to suggest going to the Meditteranean Market on Quiocassin. Their tzatziki sauce is too good to pass up! While you're at it you can also get their beef and feta fatayer! Generally, their fatayers are fantastic. I always buymore than I can eat when I go there!

                their tzatziki sauce is good.

              2. I haven't been in years but I used to love the falafel at Alladins on Broad and Laurel. Style weekly just gave Aziza’s on Main a good review. I don't know if they have falafels.
