I had an interesting experience at Nino's that at least ends up with food. I love driving around the backroads of Eastern CT smoking cigars and admiring all the old stone walls. One weekday I suddenly realized my gas gaage was on 'way empty' . I tried to limp my way to Moodus, but completely ran out of gas at Nino's, with just enough to sputter into the parking lot (maybe 3 PM). I went into the bar to see if they might have any gas on site. The owner took me around back and we checked the cans in the shed by the lawn mowers, but all were empty. So what does he do? He tosses me the keys to his Mercedes and tells me to go get some gas!

I drove down to Moodus and filled his tank as well as the gas can and got my car running again. He was busy when I got back, so I never even got his name. What a great guy!

I vowed to come back for a dinner with my wife, and we did so a couple weeks later. I ordered rack of lamb medium rare and it came out cooked to death. I think they may be better with the more casual fare there, pizza, etc, but that is the only meal I have ever eaten there.

I didn't know they had live music. That may get me back. How did your husband's gig go?

If you're looking for pizza, you might do better at Village Pizza in the Nathan Hale shopping center in Moodus, a couple of miles north. A friend took me there today and the pizza was pretty good (not quite New Haven quality but a nice edible crust). One large left four of us satisfied--of course we had also put away large quantities of suds, so our tastebuds may not have been in tiptop shape.
