DC Noodles - replacement for Simply Home on U St.
Simply Home has been replaced by a noodle concept called DC Noodles. I think they just opened this past week, and we tried it this evening (Friday). Although they seemed a little disorganized with seating, they did eventually get it together and seat us at the bar. Their menu offers appetizers, fried noodles (pad thai, pad see eu, lad na, etc.), cold noodle salad, noodles in "clear broth," noodles in "spicy broth", noodles in coconut curry, and some specials. In each of the categories you can opt for whichever meat/protein you would like from a long list, and also choose between wide or thin rice noodles or egg noodles. Most dishes are $12-$14.
I ordered the spicy soup with wide rice noodles and chicken. It came served in a huge bowl with lovely fresh toppings including peanuts, lots of bean sprouts and cilantro, plus lots of green beans. I was very happy with it. A very large serving, nicely flavored, satisfying, would definitely order it again. My boyfriend had the noodle salad with beef, and he liked it as well.
I cannot wait to return to explore more of the menu. I wish this place were a little cheaper, but I am happy that the quality is higher than most places I've tried in the district. I hope they keep it up!
