Reading Liz's take on Rockenwagner stimulated a hunger for the two dishes above. I don't need an entree just where to get the best side dishes

WHILE AT GUSTAVS JAGERHAUS YOU ARE WELL ADVISED TO TRY THE RED CABBAGE, CREAMED SPINACH AND THE POTATO PANCAKES. THESE HAVE ALL BEEN EXCELLENT IN MY VISITS THERE.

                   ENJOY!!!

The best red cabbage I have ever tasted was at Cafe Cego in Palos Verdes,777 Deep Valley drive, in back of Bristol Farms, phone 310-541-2600. Besides the red cabbage the potatoes au gratin are to die for, as is the Rack of Lamb, Beef Stroganoff, Crab curry soup, and all fish dishes.

Ah yes, german food is a dodgy endeavor intended only for the intrepid. Rockenwagner is outstanding but the german fusion menu leaves you relegated to one or two dishes. But if all you want is to cure your craving for sauerkraut, you need look no further than the supermarket shelves for Kruegermann, which my Kraut mum attests is superior to the quality of kraut she used to get back home.

Incidentally, if you like german food, try the Suppenkuche next time yer in SF, it's about as authentic as it gets, and a blast at that [www.suppenkuche.com].
