Downtown PDX for a group
Im looking for some sort of recommendation to take a group of people of 8 to 10 people. We're looking at about a $30/per person range (I know its rough)
the catch is that this is a group for the upcoming High School ProStart Culinary competition and I would like to take them somewhere that will broaden their horizons culinary speaking.
The low budget is because of the state funding of this trip. which is kind of a bummer.
We'll be staying at the Hilton downtown; any recommendations would be much appreciated.
I believe that you can get in and out for under $30/person at Clyde Common, especially if there's no alcohol consumption--would these be minors? Also there is an open kitchen there so it might be fun for them to see some of the action.
im going to assume no booze because its a high school group. So $30 per person is a sizable chunk if its just food. Are you looking for cuisines that they may not have had?if so i would suggest:
East India Co.
If your looking for something upscale but more PNW inspired cuisine, you could call places like Ten01, Carlyle, Wildwood, Alberta St. Oyster Bar, ect.. and see if they could put together a 3 or 4 course tasting menu for that price point.
Clyde Common is a good bet as well.
other places that are worth looking into:
I would call ahead to some of the places recommended (Toro Bravo, Simpatica Dining Hall and Nostrana, would be my picks) and tell them about the group and why you are coming and then ask if they could do a special menu for you at around $25pp. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the response.
Some chefs would love to have the opportunity to inspire the next generation, you should give them the chance.
