Farmer's mkts in LA

Santa Monica is the ultimate I hear -- Wednesday a.m. right?

Are there any others worth hitting?

In addition to produce are there prepared foods worth knowing about?

Thx for the help.

The Sunday AM to early afternoon market in Long Beach (Marina Drive, along the water's edge at the LB Marina, just off PCH and almost in Orange County) has a great selection of produce stands from SD, Ventura, Riverside, Kern, Fresno and Tulare counties. One of the vendors, Maggie's Farm, has great greens and lettuce from LA (Topanga area?). In addition to produce, there are vendors for grass-fed, California raised bison (Linder Bison) and great seafood.

As for prepared foods, there is a bakery as well as stands for cookies, tamales (always a line for Me Gusta), gyros... Adam's Olives carries great olives (the pitted, dried Moroccan olives are fantastic) and some nice olive oils.

I don't know how many of these are worth hitting, but here is a giant list:

And here is another, from the L.A. Times:

        This gets asked really regularly.

        So, here goes:

        The best, in order:

        Wednesday AM Santa Monica
        Sunday AM Hollywood
        Saturday AM Santa Monica
        Saturday AM Irvine

        Runners-Up (in no orde)

        Thursday PM South Pasadena
        Thursday PM Westwood
        Saturday AM Calabasas
        Sunday AM Encino
        Sunday AM Studio City

I'm sure there are others, but that will get you started.
