Good Sour Pickles in the North Shore?

abu applesauce Feb 13, 2009 09:54 AM

I need a source. I'm looking for Williamsburg, Flaums...or something I never heard of. I'm not too impressed with the packaged Gus Pickles, I think Williamsburg is superior. And I'm skeptical about the overpriced "New York Style" sour pickles they sell in my local supermarket.
Any ideas?

    Try Horman's

I usually buy them at the farmer's markets (in season); haven't been to the retail location(s).

They make an excellent sour pickle.

I usually make it my business to pick stopy by Gus's of Pickle Guys when in the neighborhood. Williamsburg Pickles are my favorite jarred pickels, although I've only seen them in kosher Brooklyn groceries. Gus's jarred were weak. Thanks for the suggestions.

Sours are my favorite... and hot sours. Gus's fresh in the barrels were great. Nothing in a jar compares.

I recommend you try: http://shop.picklelicious.com/ they're in New Jersey.

They will ship to you... good stuff. Just bite the bullet and get the gallon of sours. even with shipping, it's expensive, but bearable.

What about Fairway? Not positive but it seems like they would have pickles.

have you tried the Ba-Tampte brand? your local kosher market should have them.

Shop-Rite in Plainview sells Mr. Pickle sour (and another type, I believe), which is my favorite...

I gave up looking for real sour pickles. Unfortunately most places now only carry halfs for some reason. The best is still on the lower east side. I went last Sunday to
The Pickle Guys and there's just nothing that comes close.
