How do I eliminate member recipes from a search?

I want to look at Main dish recipes from Chow and not members.

When I click on the recipe tab on top of the page and select 'Main' I get mostly member recipes which might not be bad, but they are not main dishes unless fruitcake and cheesecake are main dishes for people. Here's what I get.

If I click on the cheap eats tab, I can get main dishes from chow for recipes tagged as a cheap eat, but I still want to look at ALL main dish recipes from chow.

I am signed up for the recipe of the day, but that doesn't cover all recipes and I'd like to see them all.

    1. I think if you click on CHOW on the left side of the page, then part way down that page in the center is RECIPES, I think that will give you what you're looking for. Only discovered that recently myself after having he same problem as you. Let me know if that's what you want.

Better, at least that only has main dishes. However, when I click on the 'main' category it still includes member recipes.

You're right. I was obviously having a senior moment. Maybe I dreamt it. Hopefully the mod will pass this along to someone and give an answer. I'd like that also.

            2. We're working on a way to separate them out, via search/browse. But you're right, currently member recipes and Chow recipes are all mixed in together.

I don't see fruitcake and cheesecake in there, though. Were they miscategorized by a member?

Thanks. I'm just getting main dishes now using the link in the OP. Maybe someone fixed it? I guess I'll just rely on my emails for chow recipes for now.

If you use the "find a recipe" search from the recipe main page, and use the tags "chow, main" for the search term, the resulting page is mostly main dishes.

I have also started adding the tag "Chow Main" (no comma) to some the main dishes. If others could also do this with chow recipes, ie "chow dessert" or "chow side", etc, it could help with specific dish type searches.

I love you hannaone, not only for this helpful tip, but for the many you have given me. That worked well enough for my purposes and I was easily able to scan all recipes flagged as 'Chow' too. Since there are only 129 recipes marked that way and I have 240 in my inbox, when I have some time, I'll add the tags to those that don't have any.

I found a few I can possibly use next week.

I like Chow recipes. Usually they are easy and even if I don't follow them exactly, they give me ideas about different things to do.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but I think there is a bug with the tags or an ommission.

If the recipe is your own and you tag it, you can remove the tag if you make a mistake. If it is someone else's recipe and you make a mistake, there is no way to remove that tag. I was trying to give an example of how someone could put together an online cookbook and then I couldn't back those tags out.

I don't think it's a bug, but a feature to be able to add tags so that you can find recipes again.
The inability to delete tags is a safety feature to keep someone from simply making a mess of things.

Still the option to delete only the tags you add would be nice. Also, those tags don't show up on the recipe unless entered by the creator of the recipe ... which is sort of ok, but doesn't make it easy right now to deterine which recipes are tagged as 'main', etc.

                                      Hmmm

Looking at the soups you tagged for the example, the tags you added are showing up for me.
Might be another of the browser/system issues if you don't see user added tags.

Take a look at some of the recipes in this link and see if the "Chow Main" tag is visible at or near the bottom of the tag list in the left column.

EDIT: You may also be talking about the category identifier. When you create a recipe there is a drop down on the template for "Category".
This creates an internal identifier that is not visible on the recipe page, and is used by the system to find and list recipes by category.

Ah, thanks again. They are showing up for me. Perhaps is was a server lag before the recipe updated the tags.

Sorry for adding the bogus tag to one of your recipes. If you want to and can delete feel free.
