How do they compare? Which should I go to (first)?

I've never been to the Red Rooster, but my one experience at the Blue Bottle Cafe was rather spectacular. What is it you want beyond good food? What type of food do you like?

Been to Matt's twice, both times were good not great. Have not been back in a couple of years.
Been to Blue Bottle many times. Always excellent food and service. For me an easy choice, Blue Bottle all the way.

I agree with tom246. There was a time when I might have paused before answering this question, but in my opinion the Blue Bottle is now the far better restaurant, at least when it comes to food and service. The atmosphere at Matt's is probably nicer but as someone once said, "you don't eat the atmosphere".

Matt's used to be one of my favorite restaurants but it seems to have gone downhill recently, especially since one of the Matts left.

Yes, I have to go with the Blue Bottle as well. The last couple of times we went to Matt's we also thought it had gone downhill.

            I completely agree with Ambrose.
Food is much superior at the Blue Bottle although Matt's is a prettier space..

Matt's is good but Blue Bottle is better, no question about it.
