I'm a San Francisco Bay Area Chowhound who will be in OC (Newport Coast) that week. We like Sage, but see it's not on the list. Which places would people recommend that would be similar to Sage? Have never been to 230 Forest Ave but have heard good things; was not wild about Zov's at Newport Coast. Sundried Tomato was pleasant enough as was Catal. Otherwise I don't think we've been to any of the others listed.

Stonehill Tavern (in Monarch Beach) is Michael Mina's restaurant and is one of OC's best spots. While Marche Moderne (at South Coast Plaza) isn't on the list, they have a $25 prix fixe lunch that's a great deal; they're a OC CH favourite....

I believe that Marche is an even better deal during the week for their prix fixe lunch at $20.

I'm thinking of going to Stonehill Tavern, but I'm worried that the portions will be to small. Their menu says that it's a "tasting" menu, so does that mean small portions??

I'm not sure about the portion size of their RW tasting menu, but their regular non-RW tasting menu portions aren't that small. IIRC, their 7- or 8-course tasting menu had both of us completely stuffed by the end of the evening w/very little room for dessert....

I forgot to add that I was at 230 Forest years ago; they were good then. Haven't been recently. Zov's used to be good, but apparently, they've gone downhill when they expanded... =(

Maybe this thread will help if you decide to hit non-RW spots:

I just had lunch at Wolfgang at Macy's today. When the server found out that we were there for Restaurant Week, was became unpleasant. The food was good though--plus it was only $10 for lunch.
