I've heard raves abut The Girl with the Most Cake. I don't know if they have BF cake but it might be worth a try.

re: ceebee1
My first thought when I read the thread was Swiss Pastries. I used to have it evey year for my birthday. However, as I no longer live in Ottawa, the last few times I was in Ottawa, I could not find it. I used to go to the Laurier Street location - it used to be on the first floor of some office building.
Does Swiss Pastries still exist? Where is it located? Their strawberry shortcake was great too. Thanks.

I'm partial to Swiss Pastries' Black Forest cake as it's the one we had for every birthday in my family since I was a kid! :-)

re: lula
Swiss Pastries' BFC is the best that I've ever had, but so long ago (20 plus years), and things may have changed since I lived in Ottawa.... Some comments about their cakes here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/512105 .

re: T Long
I had Swiss Pastries BF cake last year, as part of my ongoing quest for BF cake, it was very disappointing, cheap filling, not real kirsch, and the cream was runny. So far, the best Ive had in since I got back to Ottawa came from Costco. Hubby found a new scratch baker, in Stittsville, well be trying that one out. We even tried to get one from Peterborough, seems Sticklings (German Baker) no longer makes it. Will report back on tomorrows cake.

re: kaymanti
What's the name of the bakery in Stittsville? It must be relatively new. My (German-born) mother lived in Stittsville for 30 years, but she moved away a few years ago.
Too bad about Swiss Pastries; their baked goods used to be excellent, made with cream, butter, sugar, and all things good and authentic.
