Fancy SprMkt Chain?? to open in Boston Burbs

What is the name of the market chain in the process of opening a branch to the southwest of Boston near 495? Is it Wegham's or something like that? They have branches in NJ, upstate NY(??), and in the Virginia suburbs of DC, among other locations.

Last year reports had it that they would open in the fall, but clearly that has been delayed. After the initial flurry of reports and zoning and licensing questions, I do not see any recent updates. Given the economy I could imagine that they might slow down their expansion plans. This is not the best time to open an upscale large scale gourmet market, particularly out in the middle of nowhere.

  1. While there hasn't been an update since Dec, the thread below has the most info on the Wegman's opening.

    1. As Foodforthought says, it's Wegman's, and it's going to be in Westwood at the intersection of Rts 128 and 95, which is hardly the middle of nowhere. It's part of the Westwood Station development being planned for the University Ave area, and as far as I know it's still a "go".

I just saw it listed on their future stores list with completion "to be determained" along with Northborough

Just checked Legacy Place's web site. It doesn't list a Wegmans, just a Whole Foods.

The developer says the Northborough Wegman's opening will be Feb 2011:

Not sure how much of that is just hopeful guess, though.

This just appeared on Universal Hub

Looks like Westwood Place is on hold due to lack of funds
