A quick visit - what I ate

I looked through the board for ideas on a short visit to Chicago last week to visit my son, from one to four stars. One place here was not a board suggestion but was absolutely wonderful. Thanks for your posts.

Al's Italian*** sandwich was terrific.
Meatball sandwich** at Gino's was average, very slow service even though empty.
Hackney's - *1/2 for food (that's generous) *** for atmosphere/service. Had a great time here.
Rodity's Greek **1/2 it was good but not great.
Orange**1/2 was good, great presentation, good service.
Maggiano's ** standard, well made if not creative American Italian, great bartender.
A Taste of Heaven***1/2 5401 N. Clark. Terrific breakfast, lovely service. Highly recommended.
Toast ** Very rude hostess put a damper on things, but it was pretty good if a little too much on the sweet side for me (a second breakfast because my theatre son gets up late).
Tamarind *** was very good, points for having wine to match the food. We had great service (he is in a play and we told them he had to get to the theatre -- so we got our food immediately).

As usual, on my fifth visit I found the vast majority of Chicagoans friendly and helpful and very proud -- as they well should be -- of their city. If only you could see that some more good coffee is sold downtown.
