At a dinner party Saturday in Santa Rosa, the cheese plate included Capriago, a goat milk asiago-style cheese, from new producer, Bohemian Creamery. Initially available only to restaurant clients, I was excited to learn that it's now in the retail channel. My hosts purchased it at the Montecito location of Oliver's Market. It may be available in Oliver's other stores and elsewhere. It's a dense, firm cheese with splendid salting, good complexity, a nice goat-y tang. Capriago was a lovely red wine cheese.

The other highlight of the cheese course was the Roaring 40's blue from Australia. For me, at the perfect point of maturity right now. It also came from Oliver's.

That is really a nice cheese. I had all four of their cheeses tonight at Brix. If you ever see the Bo Poisse, snap it up. I think I'm going to start bugging Cheeseboard to carry it. From the website ... (pdf format)

"Bo Poisse, based on an Epoisse recipe, blends the salty and sweet in a delicious taste medley. Our newest addition offers the pungency of a washed rind cheese with the smoothness of a triple cream."

This was at exactly the right ripeness ... where the cheese is almost liquid in taste and just melts in your mouth ... it was exquisite.

The bartender suggested the Saxon-Brown Semillon with the cheese plate and even with my limited wine knowledge I suspected that wasn't right ... it wasn't. Someone bought me a glass of the Frank Family Chardonnay. It was ok with the other three, but it was such a spot on match with that Bo Poisse ... so good, so good, so, so good.

Nice cheese plate in general with dried black mission figs, apricot chutney, sweet and spicy almonds, a beautifully presented apple that was tasty and some house baked nut bread that was still warm when it was served ... all for $8 at the happy hour price.

Thanks for bringing Bohemian to my attention. I'm looking foward to see what else they will be making.

Lucky you! I can't wait to try all four together.

And for those coming up for barrel tasting this weekend and the next, Oliver's is a good place to pick up picnic supplies, bread to have in the car for between winery breaks, etc. click on the Place links for google maps.

I had the Bo Poisse at a dinner party on Friday night. My hosts purchased it at the Cheese Shop in Healdsburg. It was pleasant, but I think not mature enough to strut its stuff.

Bohemian Creamery is on the list of participants for the Artisan Cheese Festival in Petaluma.
