re: BackBayGirl
Went there yesterday (place was packed) to get pastry. Got a variety of their individual pastry pieces. All were very good. I had their green tea cake which was great and their orange cake that tasted just like a creamsicle. I will definately be going back. The cakes with the figures on them (in neon colors) were a riot. Living in the North End, I just seem to always end up at Modern, so it was great to branch out.

There are some excellent items to be had at various Asian bakeries around town.
Bao Bao (some good items), Mix Bakery, Ho Yuen (think I have the right one with coconut roles to die for), Japonaise (Brookline, red bean creams puffs I imagine the clouds in heaven are made of) and my personal favorite Yi Soon in Allston. For more info I have posted on these numerous times.

Strong opinions are fun, if you are feeling adventurous some of these bakeries are really worth checking out. I have at least 8 items at Yi soon that I am badly addicted to. Also realize that Mix Bakery is renamed Mei Sum. Great Bahn Mi sandwiches, egg custard, steamed pork buns.

re: galleygirl
hmm...i always just called it dry fried chow foon ;) unless you are thinking "ho foon" perhaps...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beef_cho... you're on really good terms with the chef, ask them to fry the noodles crispy on one side (not common but so good)

re: fredid
Decided it was worthy of a post all it's own; I really love this place. I could eat stuff, heck I DO eat stuff from there 2X a week. When they have the egg salad bun it is a great little lunch. The sweets just rock:
