Monterey Seafood
The SandBar and Grill is located on the commercial pier in Monterey. I guess it has been there forever, but we just discovered it. It is definitely a local place, very few if any tourists. The sanddabs are wonderful and the mussels are beyond wonderful. They serve good drinks and the wine list, though small, is fairly priced. The ambiance is interesting. If you sit by the window, you are at the water's edge which gives you a different perspective. We have been twice and can't wait to go again. Be sure to get the mussels.

We've been there many times over the years but regrettably have never tried the mussels, how are they prepared, simple broth?

re: PolarBear
Yes, a broth with fine junks of celery, carrot, onions...AKA Mira Poix. Sadly, I don't have the recipe so don't know the finer points. Mostly, I've had mussels in French or Italian restaurants. I think this chef is Mexican, so he probably fixed them with a Mexican bent of some sort. Try them next time for sure.
