NBC Seafood...is it still good? Or is Ocean Star Better?

Taking a large group of friends out for Dim Sum this Saturday. Wanted to go to a place with carts. Haven't been to NBC since they changed owners, is it still good? Or would Ocean Star down the street be a better call?

  1. Went to NBC for Dim Sum a few weeks ago and it was very good, packed as usual, and they've cleaned up the place a little. Parking situation is much better now.

      Thanks for the update havepixel.

I can't emphasize enough the improvement in parking. The lot is huge with plenty of spaces; sure you might end up parking a bit far, but at least you'll find a spot and you'll have a perfectly acceptable reason to eat that second or third dan tat. This is all making me hungry...I just might have to go this weekend.

    2. NBC is still really good. I always have good food there! You can't go wrong with it!

      1. If it's between the two options you gave, I go with NBC.

Ocean Star is just not the same anymore. I would suggest Empress Harbor if you are close to Ocean Star as they are also a cart service.

        1. I ate at NBC a few weeks ago and have to say it was pretty darn good. The place was packed because they had some parties going on but even still, the service and the food was very good. I would recommend it over Ocean Star. We also ate at King Hua for dinner a couple of weeks ago and it was a disappointment. Small portions and the food was not very good to begin with so it's just as well that the portions were small.

          1. both suck but if I had to pic my poison it would be NBC. Go to Elite! who cares about carts

NBC doesn't suck. We went with a large group a few weeks ago and everyone was very pleased, albeit we aren't Chinese (only one person from Hong Kong). There was a good variety; much better than Ocean Star at this point. We were going to do Elite; but everyone preferred to do the carts. I think if you don't care about carts, ELite is the way to go.

                  Yes

            2. You know what I love? The fact that this exact question has been asked on CH since 1998. And that the answers essentially haven't changed. Three cheers.

I think there was a change in ownership. With chef changes these repeated questions are not irrelevant.

For sure NBC was sold to the chefs, and at least at dinnertime the difference is noticeable, and not in a good way. I've also heard references to Ocean Star being sold before that, but I don't know that for sure.

I wasn't saying that it wasn't relevant - either today or the 180 other times it's been asked. I actually get annoyed when people preemptively cut-off threads with URLs to often pretty unhelpful threads. The question actually made me happy. Kind of soothing.
