Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Austin, TX

Mirabelle

It has been almost two months that I have been meaning to post this.

There were four of us

Appetizers:

Exotic Mushroom Saute--I particularly and everyone else at the table really liked the flavors.

Pork Flautas--were above average, but everyone else liked more than I did.

Entrees everyone sampled others

Sea Bass--quite tasty

Pork Chop--very good, but didn't care for veggie succotash

Elk loin with espresso or coffe crust--I don't see this on their online menu but was considered a favorite of the group.

Beef Tenderloin cooked perfectly with a surprising simple yet good sauce

Dessert

Chocolate Brioche Bread Pudding: it had some potential, but did nothing for me

Chocolate Pots de Creme were awesome

If I had to do it over again, would have ordered the Apple Chesnut Beignets

I felt the prices were reasonble. This same group ate at Lamberts for close to the same money and the quality of the food was not even close to Mirabelle.

Service was unobtrusive (which was good for this group).

One of the top five (of higher end type restaurants) meals that I have had in Austin and will return soon

    1. Thanks for the report. I'll be heading here with my SO for Valentine's Day. I'll post a review.

          Homero,

I have know specific knowledge about Mirabelle on special occassions,

but my experience in general is that New Years, Valentine's Day, and other formal date occassions the food tends to suffer a bit. Especially if they have a "special" menu, it seems to not be as good. That special menu could be more designed to expedite food (to turn tables, etc) than create truly memorable experience.

I went here for my birthday last month. I had the lamb shank which was just okay. The service was great, wine list was impressive and my creme brulee made me want to lick the bowl.
