Anyone have suggestions on where one can buy bitters (amer picon, amaro, etc. - not angostura, which Key Foods carries) in or near Brooklyn? Why are they so hard to find? Thanks much.

you probably need to look in liquor stores, esp in Italian neighborhoods, since most of these bitters are alcoholic beverages. Amaros like campari, cynar, averna etc are readily available. I dont know about amer picon.

Amer Picon isn't available in the US now. Tragic. I love love love a Picon Punch.
You might want to specify where in Brooklyn. One fine spot that I know of is LeNell's in Red Hook. Most midsized liquor stores will have a few things like Campari, and maybe Averna or Cynar.

If you're looking for the "add a few drops" kind of bitters like Angostura, LeNell's and Stinky (on Smith) have a number of different kinds. Kalustyan's in Manhattan has a bunch, too, but I think LeNell's is the place.

As for the real amaros and stuff like Cynar and Aperol you'll need to hit a liquor store, but most places stock them.
