Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in the South

Downtown Atlanta

I am going to be in Atlanta in a week. Can someone tell me some cool yet affordable places to eat?

    1. Cool yet affordable.......depends what you mean by cool and affordable and whether you'll venture away from downtown.
I had small cup of soup, wrap and a diet coke at Goldberg's Deli the other day, and it cost $17. That in my opinion is not affordable. Sad, because the food is good.

If you have a car....some of my favorites and somewhat "inexpensive"... If you don't have a car that changes things.

      Baraonda (italian)
Top Flr (cool space/ on the verge of expensive but not terrible)
      Muss and Turners
      Falafel King
The Vortex (or you could try Blais' new burger joint Flip)
      The Brickstore Pub
      Souper Jenny's
JCT Kitchen, Tacqueria de Sol and FIGO (all in the same lot)

Convenient to downtown is Rolling Bones on Edgewood Ave. - their bbq is quite tasty - as are their sides.

          • La Pietra Cucina in Midtown, on Peachtree just north of where it intersect with West Peachtree. The owner/chef was the sous chef for Batali's Babbo in New York for a long time.

              1. There's a pretty good Cuban place on Ponce De Leon PAPI's Close to the Krispy Kreme I've been there a couple of times the Cuban sandwich was great & the garlic pork was good, everything looked and smelled great,Powerful cuban coffee careful thereit has enough caffien to keep you up for a week.

Just went to Papi's midtown last night. The fish and steak entrees were both very good BUT the service was terribly slow. We ordered at 6:40 and didn't get our food until an hour later. They had also run out of yellow rice and jerk chicken by 6:40, which is pretty ridiculous for a Sunday night. The tostones were different from what I've had in NYC, and maybe they were more authentically Cuban than what I've had before, but they were way too greasy to eat, with barely any plantain flavor. So that was also a disappointment.
