Best Dining in Chapel Hill
2 of my good friends just got married and are living in Chapel Hill. I want to treat them to a great meal, but I don't live in Chapel Hill, so I need your help and suggestions on where to send them! I'm thinking a romantic smaller place with an emphasis on local ingredients.
Bonne Soiree is certainly the best, but also the most expensive option. If your budget is closer to $75 than $150, I would recommend Lantern. Emphasis on fresh local ingredients, very good Asian-inspired food, a bit more casual than Bonne Soiree but no less enjoyable in its own right.

Bonne Soiree is the best dining experience I've had in a restaurant in the Southeast in my 20 years of living here. Take that to the bank.
My meals there (wine pairing excluded, which I believe is $25/person) have ranged from $89 to $117.
It seems to fit your desires perfectly: fewer than 10 tables, intimate, silken service, and joie de vivre management.
Bonne Soiree is the best meal I have had in a restaurant in my life; Tina is great with wines and runs the front of the house, and Chip is a genius in the kitchen. The seared foie with NC apples remains the best single piece of food I have ever tasted. Get the tasting menu with wine pairings - out of sight...Great food and atmosphere, reasonably priced, and an all-around fantastic experience!
I qualify the use of the term "reasonably price." Is it fair for what you get? Yes. Woudl it cost you a lot more for a similar meal in a larger city like NYC? For sure. But I would expect to drop at least $120 and probably closer to $150 for two, which some may not consider reasonable.
All that aside, BS gets my vote as well.
