i was intrigued by a customer challenge to the bartenders at Drink to make something using Circus Peanuts a couple of weeks ago. that drink included bacon infused bourbon and a peanut foam with the Circus Peanut (floated on the foam) to provide a banana component , and of course they called it The Elvis.

i asked about that Bourbon and was offered a taste. wow! smoky porky goodness in liquid form. we chatted a bit and the bartender mentioned that he was thinking of doing a flip with eggs (whites only?). i immediately approved the idea and in short order i was having Bacon & Eggs. very nice.

i also spent some time watching one of the crew make the ice for the evening. big blocks of Clear Ice had warm water poured over them and then allowed to fracture. Neat-O! then the bartender carefully surveyed the cracks and began splitting and fitting the Big Chunks into rocks glasses.

i also got to sample some of the bases for two different kinds of milk punches. again Wow!

i am completely in love with this place. it has gotten me excited in the same way i was when i discovered well crafted restaurant food.

I heard rumors of this bacon-infused drink, and I agree. It IS exciting. Get the right person (John, Misty) at the right time and it can be quite an experience. An expensive experience, to be sure, but an interesting one none the less. Makes you feel sorry for the poor suckers ordering a Harpoon or even a cosmo, although I bet they can do a cosmo like no other if that's your thing.

with the care, imagination, quality of ingredients, etc. $10 per is a bargain.
i started with a 1919 and finished with Ward 8 (with a Tiki twist). it was a great way to pass an hour and a half for $40 (incl tip).

I actually find that I spend no more (or sometimes even less) when I'm at Drink than other places. Between me wanting to savor the concoctions and the time it takes for them to make the things, I definitely go through the booze a lot slower than I normally do.

If the place was more conveniently located to me and/or the crowds were lower at the times I'd like to go, I'd be there a lot more frequently.

my schedule at Drink is to arrive shortly after they open, or at the open, on mid-week days and i stay about an hour and a half, or two. i then leave when the crowd arrives and (usually) hit CTown for snacks/dinner. it hasn't failed me yet.

That brings up a question I'd been meaning to ask (and you kind of just answered), which was how crowded it was in after work hours earlier in the week. For me, a lot of the fun is with being right at the bar w/o a lot in the way of crowds (so you get more interaction w/ the bartender, able to watch what's going on, etc). I've done what you do (even including CTown!) for both Fridays & Saturdays and it hasn't been too bad (picks up right around the time that we're leaving), but I have some interested coworkers and I was thinking that the 6-7pm range on a Monday or Tuesday might be more palatable.

I somehow always seem to show up at a time where the crowds are not bad at all. Usually I am there after 8-8:30 on a weeknight (excluding Friday) and it is very easy to get a seat and never feel rushed or neglected by the bartender.

Knowing this makes it that much easier to stop off at Lucky's first and have some Chicken and Waffles then hop over to drink for Dessert, which is currently one of my favorite ways to spend an evening!

I agree, it's easy to really draw the night out and sit and sip the drinks. For some reason, I see no problem with spedning $50 for 5 drinks. The drinks are so well crafted that watching the bartenders is half the fun. In my mind I rationalize the cost by seeing a certain amount of that money going toward entertainment. And besides, I think $10 per drink is well worth the price given the care and quality. You get gouged, though, if you're not adventurous because you're paying for something you can get elsewhere in a bigger glass and, possibly, less loot.

With all due (and completely deserved!) respect to Misty and John, I don't think there's a "wrong" person in terms of the bartenders I've encountered at Drink - at least Ben, Josie, and one other I've had the pleasure of getting cocktails crafted by have been equally stellar - and I think maybe bacon-infused booze belongs over on that "it" thread as well - it's sort of food, right?

While it hasn't universally been the case, if I were to do a head-to-head comparison with the drinks both have made me, I generally enjoy Josey's versions better than Misty's (of course, that's like asking me if I'd rather have $1,000,000 or $999,999, both would be more than welcome any day of the week!). I don't think I've had anything made by John that I've had from those two. I don't know the names of the other guy(s?) there, I've had two things from a non-John guy there which I didn't like quite as much as the stuff from the other 3 I mentioned above.
