Lunch between SFO and Forestville

We're flying into SFO (from LA), renting a car and, I think, taking the 101 to Forestville. On a Sunday. Where should we stop for lunch on the way? We'll be having dinner that night at the Farmhouse Inn so something not too heavy. I was thinking about the Swan Oyster Depot. Is that on the way? Is it hard to get seats for four?

If you're hankering for oysters, I suggest that you take the scenic route rather than 101, since you're headed north anyway and passing right by oyster country. go to one of the seaside locales along Hwy 1 in Marin County: Marshall store or Nick's. If you're worried about time constraints, take 101 up to either Sir Francis Drake or Lucas Valley Road before you cut over to the ocean. That will be faster than taking Hwy 1 up through Stinson (which is how google will route you from SF). Then to get to Forestville from Marshall, continue north on Hwy 1 up to the mouth of the Russian River and take River Road east to the Farmhouse Inn. The Inn is about halfway between 101 and Hwy 1, so why not take the prettier route if you have the time?

Great ideas from Melanie. But if you should go through Stinson Beach and decide you're hungry and want to eat there, I've had several very good lunches at the Parkside Cafe in Stinson Beach.

If you are in the mood for seafood, fish & chips, etc., you could try FISH in the north end of Sausalito. If you are looking for a more conventional brunch/lunch menu, the Buckeye Roadhouse in Mill Valley is reliable and will take a reservation.

Both places are easy off & on Highway 101.

Bad news, they have a limited number of seats at the counter so 4 in a row is hard. Good news, they are closed on Sunday.
If you must have oysters check this thread.

Thanks wolfe. No, oysters aren't a must have - I just wanted to try SOD. Maybe we'll stop on the way back or on the next trip!
