French Restaurants in the GTA

Any suggestions? Looking for a recommendation for a place semi-fancy like and a nice romantical setting. TIA!

  1. Could try Celestin on Mount Pleasant, or La Palette on Augusta in Kensington Market ( a bit more Bohemian). Both have websites, and great food!

    1. Didier is good if your looking for classic French :

      1. Second Celestin.
Would also recommend Pastis & Jacques Bistro du Parc.

Haven't tried Loire or Tati yet, but they also might be good options.

        1. Auberge du Pommier (Yonge/York Mills) - romantic/pricey/good food - have the mushroom soup and the frog legs

Any thoughts from others on Brownes Bistro (Summerhill/Yonge) - think it is French but have not been a long time and can not recall.....

          1. re: ksapd

Better choice in the Summerhill area is Pastis, probably. More relaxed than fancy, but some of the most consistently well-executed French in the city.

              Batifole?

              1. re: bruceter

Lousy food last time I ate there!!! Original chef left?!!

                1. re: Charles Yu

The chef and the owner are the same person so he didn't go anywhere.

Maybe the kitchen is way too hot and he's sweating like crazy, needing to replenish electrolytes, because every dish I've tasted there the past few times I've been has been incredibly oversalted.

                    1. re: tjr

                      Obviously, we have different salt thresholds :}

                      1. re: ChalkBoy

I'm not salt-sensitive in the least, but we have had to send numerous dishes back because they were far too salty. If I wanted a salt lick, I'd buy a salt lick.
