My friend is pregnant and unable to eat any fat - oil or dairy. Since she is miserable, we want to to take her out to cheer her up; however, we do not want to suffer with her. Any idea where we can find a place that will make a fat-free meal for her, and a good one for the rest of us.

Thanks

aw, poor thing. Fat free meal, hmmm, I would think you can go anywhere and tell them your specifications and they will accomodate. Stick with veggies. Try Josie's.

Completely fat-free (meaning something like a steamed fish is out) or no fat added during the cooking process?

she says she cannot have any oils or dairy fats. I believe this means no fat added during the cooking process.

Several possibities I can think of:

- if she can eat seafood, Aquagrill can cook seafood (fish) anyway she wants. Perhaps a baked fish and ask for no oil added.
- salt-crusted baked fish have no oil added except may be at the last minute when the fish is "uncrusted", so you can definitely ask for no oil at the end. Such dish is available at Belcourt, Cookshop, Ethos, and a lot of restaurants
- steamed seafood is available is most Cantonese restaurants. Ask them not to ask oil. Oriental Garden, Cantoon Garden, Chatham Restaurant, Amazing 66, all have such dishes.
- Steamed vegetables / chicken are also available at these restaurants. Just ask the staff not to add oil.
- In Japanese restaurants, a lot of food do not have much oil added and are cooked so they are safe for pregnant women. Some examples are: cold / warm tofu with soy, scallions, and ginger. Claypot rice with mushrooms or other ingredients, maki rolls with cooked ingredients (like vegetables or cooked fish), soba noodles, steamed shumai, shrimp dumplings in soup, etc. Quite a lot of choices, you just have to pick and choose.
