Special Occasion Dinner - Vancouver (Lumiere, Market or West?)

cowtownfoodie Feb 4, 2009 07:27 AM

I am celebrating a milestone birthday, and am trying to choose between the top eateries in Vancouver for dinner. There will be two of us, and I am essentially trying to decide between Lumiere, Market and West.

Thoughts? Are there any chowhound reviews of the new Lumiere or Market?

I've seen reviews of Lumiere and Market on other Vancouver food boards. Both have been very, very favourably reviewed. Market is getting raves - low prices and high quality. Any one of those would be a good choice. How about Parkside?

Just saw that Parkside is closing due to the economy.

Have heard raves about Market especially, but haven't heard as much on Lumiere.

West is a winner for me.

It's a smart move in recessionary times. They are looking resurrect Parkside eventually...maybe in the same location.

I haven't dined at Market yet...and it's been awhile since I've hit Lumiere or West but may i suggest Blue Water Cafe? My wife and I recently dined there and it was fantastic!!! I can also wholeheartedly recommend Fuel.

I would take Lumiere out of the three. I think Market is the most accessible out of them, as it's the cheapest, open for lunch, etc. But Lumiere has been getting great reviews since it reopened. A Gill just said it was, I believe, the best meal she's ever had in Vancouver. I would go there.
