Great Restaurants with Kids in Toronto
Hi,
We're going to be in Toronto from the 19th-22nd and enjoy great food. We're big food fans and have pilgrimaged to Eigenssin Farm pre-kids. But we will have our 4 year old son and 9 month old daughter. We're staying at the Delta Chelsea. Any recommendations for restaurants that are kid friendly or at least kid tolerant. We also tend to eat pretty early due to bed times. We're not averse to eating nice lunches and getting good take out so take out recommendations nearby are also very welcome.
Is it crazy to want great food with little kids?
Thanks,
Chris

A fun dining experience is the Bluegrass Brunch at the Dakota Tavern on Sundays. I've just been once and it was PACKED with people under 10 y.o., more babies than adults, I think. Decent food, live music, filled with downtown hipsters, it could be a fun way to end your T.O. trip.
When we went, the food was average quality (not bad but not wonderful). It is served "family style" and everyone helps themselves. It is not a buffet - table service with big plates for sharing. About $12/ person for adults? Probably a deal for kids but I was one of the few tables without tots so I don't know for sure.

One of my favourite Italian places is VERY kid-friendly: Ferraro's is on Eglinton near Avenue Rd. You probably would want to take a cab from the Eglinton subway station to get there though. Also, when you go early (which is what we do when we have a small one with us) Five Doors North is also kid-friendly---when we've been there with a baby around 5:30 or so on a Saturday, we've been amazed at how many other babies pop up in the restaurant. It's also a very Italian place and closer to the subway (either Eglinton or Davisville).

wanted to add that since you are planning to eat early you can take your kids anywhere, i've never had a problem. especially if you have your own booster seat for the baby (some places don't have highchairs), any restaurant should be happy to have you. we generally go out to eat at 5:30 - my kids are similar age to yours - and its always fine.

Caplansky's... it's a little dive-y but that's part of the charm. Plenty of kids on weekends - and you can see what all the fuss is about over their home-made smoked meat.

Even though it's not far relatively speaking, you might need a cab for this but Select Bistro has a kids' menu and I've always enjoyed the food there.
You'll get some dissenting views but many are positive. Click on the place link for related threads.

You will be staying very close to Linda, at Yonge and Gould -- a great spot for Thai food. It's above a sister restaurant called Salad King. The latter is good for takeout. The former is great for a "casual fine dining" experience, if that makes sense. The food at Linda is superior to that of Salad King. I haven't seen a lot of kids there, but it's not a super quiet environment, so you should be ok. They are open for lunch Tuesday - Friday, so you may want to check them out for lunch instead of dinner.
Terroni, on Adelaide, would be another good spot. Casual, but hip, Italian. With kids in tow, I would recommend going early so you don't have to wait too long for a table. They take reservations up to 6 pm only. It get VERY busy after that. Be aware though, that there is a strict "no substitutions" rule at Terroni -- so if you 4 year old is picky, you may have a tough time there.
