Lodge Reversible Griddle Help

I bought one of these but last time I used it, it made a tremendous mess on the top of my stove. I think it was from some residual oil on the flat side that dripped onto my burners and baked on. It's taken me lots of scrubbing and a can of oven cleaner to remedy.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions either to keep things cleaner or to put under the griddle to cover the stove when I'm using it.

  1. Don't have so much grease on the underside that it actually drips off of it while you cook. Problem solved. Run the thing under hot top water (as hot as your water heater will produce) and scrub it with a stiff plastic brush. Rinse it well with the hot water and dry it with a towel/paper towel. Set it on the stove over medium heat for a minute or 2 to help evaporate any residual drops.

Cast iron, just like any other cookware, should not be dripping with oil.
