FEBRUARY-MARCH DESSERT Cookbook of the Month - VOTING THREAD

  • 7

Well, in comparison with the November election, we certainly have a low turnout. I expected as much due to overbaking during the holidays.

In any case, we'll go forward with the final voting because it's easy for me to do even if there are only a few folks who are responding.

I'm putting the following books up for a vote (I took out the Rose Bakery cookbook because technically it DOES have savory recipes as well. I'll propose it again for the main COTM thread). I left out the Silver Palette for the same reason. I also figured that since 2 books by each author were suggested, we could do a combo. It's slim pickin's this month but these 2 authors were the only ones to get more than one vote. Here are the choices:

Art and Soul of Baking and The Modern Baker by Nick Maglieri

Secrets of Baking and Desserts by the Yard by Sherrie Yard

I'll tally the votes this Saturday and we'll start right away because February is already upon us!

  1. Ok, my vote goes to SECRETS OF BAKING AND DESSERTS BY THE YARD.

(And I am going to check out the Rose Bakery book on the side. Oakjoan, you've convinced me I need to look at it.)

    1. Art and Soul of Baking gets my vote!

      1. ART AND SOUL OF BAKING but I won't be sad if the Yard books win.

        1. ART AND SOUL OF BAKING and THE MODERN BAKER please.

Well, it looks as if the Art and Soul of Baking and The Modern Baker have won in a landslide --- 3 to 1! Alert the media! Obama has NOTHING on us, eh?

Actually, there were 3 votes for only the Art and Soul of Baking so technically, there were 3 votes for both books and 1 vote for only. Are we going with both books or only The Art and Soul of Baking? Also, for some reason, I thought The Art and Soul of Baking was by Magliere, but it turns out to be by Sur La Table and Cindy Mushet....does Magliere also have one with the same title? Plz. advz.

If I don't hear from anybody before tomorrow, I'll post both books.

you know, I kept meaning to go look at my book, I swore it was a woman author. I thought I was crazy :). I don't have modern baker, so I would only bake from The Art and Soul.

So here's what I've decided to do this month. Since there are so few of us, and even though there might be many more who see the threads and respond, I'm going to make only ONE thread for each book. It will be up to you to indicate the name of the book, the page number, and title of the recipe, etc. for each posting you do. It just seemed silly to put out 10 separate threads for each book which would all get swallowed up by the Home Cooking Board and not be easy to find. This way you can just search for the name of each book and get to the thread.

How does that sound? I'll put it up in about 2 hours (PST).
