Exact phrase search?

What is the proper way to do an exact phrase search? When I use google style quotation marks, my results do not change... i.e. "Newport Seafood" yields the same results as Newport Seafood, which is to say that I get results from Newport Beach, and any number or seafood places around Los Angeles, but very little in the way of the Cantonese Chinese restaurant which is actually called "Newport Seafood".

Thanks

    1. Without quotes the search phrase you are looking for is: (either will work just dandy)

      Newport Tan Cang Seafood
      or
      Tan Cang Seafood Newport

        1. I find the exact phrase search to be extremely frustrating. For example when I type in "Texas Red" I get 67 results that have the exact phrase as well as the word Texas and the word red. If I put Texas Red without quotes I get over 3,000 hits. I wish I could narrow it down to get only what I want, but I guess it can't be done. Someone showed me how to go around CH and use google, but I don't remember how to do it. I'll have to do a search. LOL!

Go to google and type in the phrase you are looking for and site:chow.com, i.e. "texas red" site:chow.com

You are my favorite person in the whole wide world. Now tell me how to get "my chow" to display all the latest posts at the top of the first page. Or, if that's too complicated, how to display all the pages on one screen. Don't let me down!

It was nice being your favorite person for 40 minutes. As far as I know there is no fix for your problem. Chowhound is broken and there is no work around that I know.

I've addressed this on the Site Talk board. They've been aware of this bug for at least a year.

Ya know, I used to think of that as a bug. But if every stupid dopey thread about tipping or whatever that I ever participated in kept jumping to the top of my MY CHOW page, I'd get tired of that really quickly. So now I think of it as a good thing.

The way to get around that is to mark/unmark a particular thread you want to track as "My Favorite". That way you have a page to refer quickly back to which is dedicated only to those threads that you've earmarked (regardless of whether you've posted to the discussion or not)

That's a pretty good idea! It does add an extra step to mark the threads I actually care about, but it certainly weeds out the chaff.

Crap. They've had forever to fix this stupid problem. Maybe it's on purpose, the Chowhound version of "after the jump." A way to get me to look at more ads. I am now suspicious (mutters to self, considers writing to Sheldon Silver for assistance).
