St Paul delivery?

I'm out of town, and trying to figure out how to have some decent food delivered to a friend (and family) who's just out of the hospital. They're just north of I-94 and east of 51/Snelling. Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  1. Can you be more specific (name of suburb or neighborhood?) about where these folks are located? I'm thinking Tea House II delivers in that area, but it's hard to know without more specific information. http://ourteahouse.com/Default.aspx

I just realized I linked the wrong thread, when I meant to be linking the thread for Tea House II delivery. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/4525...

Wow! Did not know they delivered. That opens up some possibilities.

      2. I'm not sure if this is on the threads that TDQ provided, but Pizza Luce delivers. In addition to pizzas, they have some good salads, spaghetti, sandwiches, and other things.

I think Luce is in one of the lists, but I say you can never recommend a good place too many times. Lest the OP worry that Luce might be your average, run of the mill pizza, it isn't...

        2. North of 94 and East of Snelling sounds like Midway to me. There are a bunch of tasty places along University around there, but not many that deliver.

I have gotten delivery from Kim Huoy Chor before (www.yourchineserestaurant.com). Not unique or surprising, most is standard Chinese take out, but the 2 times I've ordered from them everything I got was well made (and reheated well). I've heard their Cambodian items are special.

Yeah, I think you're right that it sounds like Midway...hard to say what "just north" of 94 means and how far East of Snelling. One of the threads I linked above was for Midway delivery. Here it is again, to make it easier to find. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/5401...

Uisge, how recent is your experience ordering from Kim Huoy Chor? I ordered from them a couple of times, maybe three three, maybe two years ago. Sometimes it was pretty good, sometimes it was lousy. Wildly inconsistent. I finally decided I wasn't willing to deal with "lousy," so I stopped ordering from them altogether. I'm curious to know if your experience is more recent and, if so, if they've gotten more consistently good.

Also, Cecil's delivers. I don't know what their delivery range is--if the OP's friend does live in Midwest, which isn't TOO far North, Cecil's could be fun. http://www.cecilsdeli.com/

              Cool. I didn't know Cecil's delivered!

I ordered from KHC first about 2 years ago and it was meh. My most recent time was about 2 month ago and I was really pleased, especially at being able to stretch what I ordered into about 5 different meals. They may still be uneven. I'm sure I'll get a craving soon and I'll let you know.

              1. re: Uisge

Yes, do let us know if you have more experiences with their delivery. I've had a couple of days where I've been home sick with a cold and have been craving delivery pho... and KHC is the only place that does (as far as I know) in St. Paul.

I should probably note that I've never personally had Cecil's delivered --I've just always noticed on their website, etc. that they say they do. Again, this time of year, having some soup delivered sounds very appealing!

I'm updating this thread to link to another thread where I mentioned places that deliver: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/8657...

Also, I've since learned that Cecil's doesn't really deliver, they cater.

          2. It does sound like the Midway (which is where I live), and most delivery around here is your typical fast food delivery. Here are our go-to delivery places:
            1) Pizza Luce is a good option as others have mentioned; they have pastas, salads, and desserts, so you could send a whole meal. I do like the pizzas, too--my fave is the Pizza Lupe (kinda Southwest style).
            2) New Asia is our Chinese place--typical, Americanized Chinese, probably not "authentic," as others have said. But whatever. Bright red sauced sweet and sour chicken and cream cheese puffs have their place in the world. I like it.
            3) Lastly, Jimmy John's is good for fresh sub-style sandwiches. It's a local (?) chain that everyone around here knows. Good stuff, IMHO.

I always forget about Jimmy John's. Thanks for the reminder.

              1. re: midwaygirl

I believe Jimmy John's started in Urbana at the U of Ill. but they have locations all over the midwest. They have their place, especially with delivery until 3am (at least some stores).

              2. I would also recommend D'Amico's. Check out their catering menu & they deliver. Call the one on Grand in St. Paul or the one in Roseville for you friend's location. http://www.damicoandsons.com/frame.as...

Someone had them deliver sandwiches & salads when my grandmother was in the hospital & it was much appreciated & good.

Just writing to see if there are any new recommendations for St. Paul delivery. I'm in the 280/University area with a broken leg, unable to drive for the better part of the summer. In the past, I've successfully had Pizza Luce deliver to my house, and had quite the time (giving turn-by-turn directions with the delivery guy) getting Ghandi Mahal to deliver here. I generally opt for take out, so I'm not that familiar with delivery options. I suspect I'd be in the delivery zone for most places on University, possibly Highland, and also Seward, possibly Longfellow.

I called the new Teahouse on University, and they do not delivery, sadly. And Cecils will be my next call.

                  1. re: jaycooke

So sorry about your broken leg. That is lousy!

Alas, but I think Cecil's only does delivery for "catering"...but, it's worth checking anyway.

I notice CHris and Robs does delivery. I'm not sure how close that is to you.
                    http://www.chrisandrobs.com/

                    Szechuan does
                    http://szechuanmn.com/menu.html

D'Amico & Sons does (maybe from the Roseville or Grand Ave locations?

Probably ridiculous, but for a $35 minimum, Nelson Cheese Factory delivers http://www.nelsoncheese.net/deliverie...

I"m W7th based and my delivery menus include Green Mill, Chris and Robs and Kim Huoy Chor (http://www.yourchineserestaurant.com/...).

Regarding KHC - I've recently been trying more of their Cambodian options and really loving them. The Chicken Curry Soup reminds me of Thai masaman curry but with noodles. The K'tieu Cha has also been good (eggs are scrabbled rather than hard boiled).

As someone who likes to complete and order without talking to anyone :), I enjoy online ordering. Green Mill and Kim Huoy Chor both offer it. Haven't had any mixed up orders since I started using their systems.

If Green Mill delivers, I wonder if Twisted Fork does? That might give you some options, too.

                        1. re: The Dairy Queen

Twisted Fork does not deliver, but they do takeout.

                        2. re: Uisge

The Cambodian menu at KHC has dwindled some since Opening Day, but it remains a highlight among a Chinese/Vietnamese menu that, IMHO, has suffered notably in that same time.
