Walpole Creamery vs. Strafford Organic Creamery Ice Cream

BratleFoodie Feb 2, 2009 05:48 PM

I very rarely have dessert of any kind, but at my annual Super Duper Bowl/Birthday Party on Sunday, I did have on hand some ice cream. Walpole Creamery's Ginger and Coffee, and Strafford's Chocolate.

I had never had any other flavours of these two company's ice creams, and I would love your thoughts as to their other tastes for future gatherings. I want to give yummy treats to my friends that are locally made if humanly possible.

I loved the Ginger from Walpole best. But I adore ginger. I also noticed that Strafford is a heavier container when new hence more dense -- are the flavours denser too?

Anyway, any thoughts on the rare treats I should give my friends?

FWIW, Strafford was nicely featured on WCVB' Ch. 5's Chronicle tonight in Boston.

I generally like Walpole better, but I really like Strafford's coffee ice cream

Well of course you do, we're New Englanders!

Bizarrely enough, I am such a breakfast tea drinker (ooh green tea ice cream I also love), and can only drink coffee in the afternoon with lots of milk, else my stomach get unhappy.

Oh, wait. Coffee. Lots of milk. Never mind...

That's an interesting stat about us NErs, Harp. I don't actually eat the stuff frozen, but like you, BratleFoodie, I put enough cream (and sugar) in my coffee that I actually think of it as a hot coffee shake. Yummmmmmmmmm!

Also, have you thought of buying an ice cream machine? We picked one up over the summer (Cuisinart) and it's fun and easy to play with. You can make your own flavors to treat your friends--how's that for locally made? ;) Last week I made two flavors of gelato--chocolate and peanut butter. Just a little something for you to mull over.

walpole is much better, Strafford over whips the cream leaving a butter fat feel on the roof of your mouth
