Brenners on the Bayou - great atmosphere and great food - unfortunately also Fertitta owned, but not as made for the masses as V&A. Otherwise Pappas.,

I think Vic & Anthony's and Del Frisco's are both great options for a special occasion. The filet I had at Del Frisco's was the best I've had in Houston, and they cooked it to a true medium rare (bonus!). I can't speak as well to the true steak experience at Vic & Anthony's, because there I had a filet with foie gras and port peppercorn sauce -- absolutely amazing, but not a pure steak experience.

The last truly great steak my husband and I had was at the Steamboat House. I had the NY Strip and he had the Ribeye. Perfectly cooked, everything was great, lovely dining room, gorgeous bar, not part of a chain, not crowded so you could have a conversation without having to hear your neighbor's, and the service was exactly as it should have been - attentive, but not obtrusive.

Wonderful steaks and salads. they have a cheese block that is to die for!!!

Saltgrass Steakhouse is good as well. Not as pricy, but not as good either!

If you are going to shell out Pappas money, I would consider Vic and Anthony's downtown. While yes, it is a Fertitta restaurant, i have only heard good things about it, while never having been there personally.

We have already tried Vic and Anthonys. It was very good.BUT, we are from out of town and would like another very good steak house to impress ourselves with.

How about Capital Grille? I haven't been, but we are planning on going within the next couple weeks. We have heard great things about this place for a long time and finally have the extra money to splurge. The Delmonico is supposed to be outstanding.

How about Truluck's? Great Steaks, great seafood. I've been to Vic and Anthony's (nothing bad to say), Pappas (Not a big fan) and the Taste of Texas (just ok). Trulucks gets my vote for the quality of food, the atmosphere and the quality of service.

If you're going to spend the big bucks, (IMO) you have to go USDA prime. From what I remember, Capital Grille doesn't fit the bill.

Since ccfoodie originally asked and then I chimed in, where would you go to, bulldozer? For prime?
