Kogi - the Korean BBQ taco truck

For those of you who have found the truck and tried the food, is the long line worth the food? I'm hoping to find it this week.

  1. I had several things... short ribs taco, chicken taco, and chicken burrito. Strangely, I couldn't actually taste the difference between the chicken and the short rib... The experience was strange for me, as it was "just good" while I was eating it; several moments after I finished eating, my mouth was happier than while I was eating.

Go when you haven't got anything else to do.

    1. I am of the opinion that no line that long is worth the food. On the other hand, if you go with friends who you want to hang around with and talk with - maybe brown bag a bottle of something - then maybe the whole scene is worth a try.

I have heard that their location outside The Brig on Abbott Kinney is often not very crowded, especially if you get there about the time they get there.

I've had the short rib, spicy pork and chicken tacos - all of which I liked a lot, my favorite being the short rib. I took a bite of the kimchi quesadilla, and all I can say about that is that cheese and kimchi are not one of the world's finest food combinations. I did manage to swallow my bite, but only just.

i've been the the brig location twice and it was never a wait. there was a line each time of maybe 4 people with a bunch of people hovering around the parking lot happily eating. if you're in venice/marina del rey and need some late night food, that's the spot. grab a brew at the brig too, as they let you carry the food inside.

Huh. I thought the kimchi quesadilla was amazing.

Glad you liked it. You can have mine.

        2. I agreed with the JayKayen. The novelty is great and the menu sounds much more appealing then your typical taco truck--but I couldn't honestly say it tasted spectacular in any sense of the imagination. I've had all the specials and it was just good but nothing to rave about. I love korean food and sorta wish i could get real slabs of kalbi on rice and kimchi from the truck instead!

            2nd JayKayen and hppzz.

I really admire what the chefs are trying to do, but i feel that the buzz surrounding this food phenomenon has more to do with the novelty of the items being served, rather than their spectacular taste.

I think it's worth trying at least once, but not something I would line up regularly for.

Good but I'd still prefer taco zone.

          2. Pretty tasty tacos. My favorite was the tofu taco for some reason and the short rib was good too. $2/taco is not a great deal but worth it to try once i guess...i probably wouldn't wait for it again...

            1. Not only do I agree with the responses that say it's not worth waiting for, but I'll also say that I don't feel like it's worth going out of the way for.

Don't knock it till you tried it. Great flavor taco's. Great value, worth trying.

I've been a couple times already: the first to try it out, and a few times after because friends were curious. I wouldn't call it a great value, considering you can get tacos for cheaper from every other truck, and bringing it back to my original post, considering that there's a taco truck close to you with little to no wait wherever you are in LA.
