hi..i am looking for some ideas on where to spend some quality time with friends for a birthday night out filled with good food, quality drinks, and a nice (not necessarily fancy) atmosphere at a NOT outrageous price in west hartford center or hartford.

Maybe O'Porto or Costa del Sole in Hartford or Barcelona in West Hartford center

Costa del Sol is a good choice. I went last week and they have a $24.00 3-course menu in Feb. I also hit Feng for a birthday last week and it was awesome but a bit more expensive. Worth it though.

I agree with the Barcelona recommendation, but it can be pricey. Agave in Hartford is great, but also can be expensive. Maybe try Tapas either in Hartford or West Hartford. Corner Pug in West Hartford is a pub atmosphere but has GREAT food. I am also a big fan of Bricco, but I think some people may disagree.

How 'bout Monte Alban in Hartford? Prices are reasonable...the only downside is parking can be a challenge and "quality drinks" aren't in the mix (if you mean mixed drinks). Used to be BYO years ago...now they serve beer (maybe wine, too?). I don't go there for drinks. I go for the enchilada y burrito combo. ;) And I'm a fan of their limonada, too, but I don't think that's what the OP is after. Great place just the same.

there are evening parking spaces for monte alban, abyssian, and ichiro behind kinkos. They are clearly marked as such. Do not guess they are marked yellow lined spaces. Follow the signs and you will not get towed.

What's not to like about Bricco? Just curious. I haven't been in a long time. It's my hairdresser's favorite restaurant and he is not only Italian, but very picky. ;) I was hoping to check it out again in the near future.

i do love bricco....they have REALLY good food. it's really the only restaurant i've been to in west hartford center, so i wanted to try something new. have you heard anything about that new place cocoa's in the center?

Funny you should ask...yes, but only here on this board. And the two reviews posted were pretty discrepant. Have a look:

If mixed drinks are something you're looking for, I'd steer clear of Tapas (at least the Elmwood location as I believe they only offer beer/wine) and Monte Alban because I think they only have beer.
I'd suggest Elemement Bistro in Elmwood...I'm getting "over" WH center restaurants myself--they're too busy and too "see and be scene".

Wood n Tap or Corner Pug are good pub type restaurants with good, reliable food. Wood n Tap has great fun food for groups. Their Monster Nachos are the best nachos you'll find anywhere -- and truly monstrous, size-wise! I would second Elements, but if there's much drinking going on, it doesn't strike me as a good place for boisterous fun, if you get my gist. Another great group place is the Afghan Shish Kebab in the Center. Food is terrific and they are well suited table-wise for a large group. Not cheap, but great food. Happy birthday!
