Dinner Recs between Signal Hill & Silver Lake?

chuckles Feb 1, 2009 09:19 AM

My friend lives in Signal Hill and I live in Silver Lake. We're looking for a moderately-priced (entrees between $10-20) place somewhere in between us to meet up for an early dinner on Saturday.

We're both pescatarians so a great sushi restaurant would be ideal (and for good sushi we'd blow the budget!) but anywhere with abundant veg and fish options works too. My friend had to give up the meat under doctor's orders so I was thinking of introducing her to RFD or M Cafe for some awesome vegan/macrobiotic food, but I'm wondering if that'll have her to a lot more driving.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

That's a tough area for chowing. Probably too late but maybe for next time...

    La Casita Mexicana in Bell
Ceviche del Rey 7404 Florence, Downey

you will not find good sushi in that area but if you must,
Ichiban Sushi, 11020 New St, Downey
it's about as good as Noshi Sushi, which is to say it's not very good. But if you must..

If Mexican seafood suits you, consider La Serenata de Garibaldi in Boyle Heights. It is probably closer to Silver Lake but if traffic is light it is about 25 to 30 min from Signal Hill.

We ended up going to Otafuku Noodle House in Gardena for some soba & fishcake tempura. I've gotta get myself to the South Bay more often!

The Wood Spoon -- downtown on 9th and Main. It's Brazilian; they cook great fish and always have a few veggie options. I suggest that whatever the owner/chef suggests, you order. Always works out well for me.

Uh -- where's Signal Hill? I've lived in LA my whole life and don't know where you're talking about.

Signal Hill is in the middle of Long Beach, but it is its own city. Sorry Chuckles, I know of places in Near Long Beach and I have heard there are some good places in the South Bay.
In Seal Beach, which is a bit south of Long Beach, there is a great place called Restaurant Koi for great sushi.
