Skip this fondue

I am a huge fan of fondue and was tempted by the Bier Markt Fondue Feastivul entitled ME, YÜ, UND FONDÜE. I went there on Friday afternoon and to say the least, I was sadly disappointed. I ordered the brie and lobster served with asparagus, cherry tomatoes, crab balls and pretzel. The contents of the pot were cold and drab. The cheese tasted like a pot of Campbell's tomatoe soup. I sent it back to be heated and they returned it with a film on top that turned my hungry tummy. I thought that I would give it a go, so I started with the crab ball sans crab. Cold and tasteless. The asparagus was cold and overcooked. Placing a tiny piece of canned lobster on top does not justify calling this a lobster fondue.

I brought it to the attention of the server and she called the manager over. He was very nice about the situation and comped my meal. He explained to me that they test the meals on sixty of their staff and they all liked it. They obviously have not had true fondue.

Here is the menu, but in my opinion, stick to box fondues.

# Cheese & Lager: Appenzeller, emmental and raclette cheeses combined with Stella Artois Lager and offered with asparagus, grape tomatoes, cornichons and fresh baguette for dipping.
# Brie, Lobster & Pastis: French brie cheese with Canadian Atlantic Lobster, mini-crab cakes, soft pretzel and fresh baguette.
# Fontina, Hazelnut & White Truffle: served with grape tomatoes, asparagus, rosemary biscotti and fresh baguette.
# Fruits de Mer (Hot Broth): a Lobster and fennel broth served with fresh scallops, Canadian Atlantic lobster, gulf shrimp and heirloom vegetables.
# Wild Game (Hot Broth): a cherry lambic and peppercorn-infused bison broth served with Alberta bison, Cereva venison, Nunavut caribou, heirloom vegetables and a selection of house compotes.
# Mocha Hazelnut: served with banana, berries, macaroons and biscotti
# Belgian Chocolate & Bailey’s: served with banana, strawberries, profiteroles and biscotti.
