Saturday, February 14 - help !

Helen Jan 30, 2009 12:51 PM

A friend wants to take me out for lunch on the 14th but, unfortunately, it's Valentine's Day. She wants to take me somewhere really special as it is an important birthday for me (75 !).

She's asked me where I'd like to go butt I cannot think of anywhere on the Saturday. There used to be a great buffet at the King Eddie but they only do that on a Sunday.

Anyone got any ideas? I thought of Nota Bene but not too sure. The the Four Seasons but, again, brunch is on the Sunday except for the Antipasti buffet in Avenue - don't fancy that.

Needs to be downtown as she's coming from the West end of the city and I live in the North end

Happy Birthday!! Is your birthday right on the 14th? My daughter was born on Valentine's Day and she milks it for all its worth ie birthday AND Valentines gifts.

Here's a thread with some suggestions for an upscale Saturday lunch -

No, it's the day before !!!

At the moment I'm looking at Jamie K - Gardiner and Front Street (been to that one). Wouldn't mind trying the Gardiner but some of the reviews are a bit iffy.

I had a great experience at JK Gardiner but perhaps it may not seem "special" enough for your friend and the occasion. It is after all an upscale museum restaurant. The room is almost completely surrounded by glass, which is lovely, nice view. But I was there about this time last last year and the sun coming through was so strong my friend had to wear sunglasses. I would go back in a jiffy (loved the food) but not so sure if it's the best place to celebrate a 75th birthday.

        Have you considerd Studio Cafe?

        (NOT the chef)

The Gallery Grill is really lovely for lunch. And happy 75th! Great reason to celebrate!

Gallery Grill would be perfect, I agree, but not open on Saturday, unless things have changed.
Helen - any chance of changing the lunch to Sunday so you can go to Gallery Grill for brunch? Well worth it.

Doh -- I always get mixed up about which weekend day they're open. Thanks, JamieK.

She didn't mention Sunday so she may have plans. I think the Studio Cafe will be good, we were there beginning of December. The brunch menu looks good.

JamieK - yes, I know you're not the chef. I laughed when I saw your comment. I'm on this website every day, love it.

Hey, Helen - I know you've been around a while and offering valuable comments. I add the disclaimer in threads where JK restos are mentioned for the benefit of those who have "just tuned in". Hope you have an enjoyable birthday!!

Helen, I would recommend reserving Studio Cafe asap. It gets fully booked regularly.

Thanks everyone for your help. It's been decided - AGO - Frank. I'll let you know how it all went :)

Frank in the AGO would be nice. Or C5 in the ROM. I think JK Gardiner is more special if you can ever hit their Friday dinners.
