MSP - Where to buy venison?

normativestructures Jan 29, 2009 07:29 PM

Who stocks the best venison around town? I've never had to buy it before, but for some reason I don't have any hunters in my life anymore. I know they give out the fresh shot stuff at the food shelf, but it seems pretty inappropriate to feign a need just to get my deer meat fix.

Same question. We usually get venison from my wife's family, but pickings have become slimmer the last few years.

Sub question; where can I get fresh deer liver within 20 miles of Mpls?

Can't help you with where to buy venison, but if you're looking for a place to get your deer meat fix without cooking it yourself, I'd highly recommend the grilled venison leg that they serve at Craftsman Restaurant (served with a puree of rutabaga and celery root, and apple cider and cherry glazed carrots). I had it last week.

There are a few websites. I've never purchased venison, for similar reasons, so I have no idea about quality.

However, one could consider calling places like Craftsman and asking which farm they buy theirs from.

Now that you mention it, the Red Stag has all-natural venison on their menu. Thanks for the memory jog!

Clancey's can get it, though you will likely have to order in advance.

Nelson's Meat in Hopkins sells venison saugage and other products. I would give them a call and see if they have any venison now.
