Howdy, I'm looking for a good restaurant in LA, prob Hollywood area, to take a date...Something along the lines of Bazaar. But mix in Animal. Somewhere you can dress up to. New American(south or north!) or gastropub type of food. What do ya'll think?

My old standby in Hollywood is Hungry Cat. Best restaurant in Hollywood IMHO. If you want a "hip" restaurant, there's Katsu-ya which is sushi and Japanese, Beso which is high-end Mexican (hated the food both times I went) and Kress which is sushi with an awesome rooftop deck. The last three are all pretty expensive but very trendy.

i only went to hungry cat once; we were seated on little, crowed, benches in the patio area.

this is not where i'd want to be if i were dressed up. maybe things have changed or maybe there is another seating area that is more comfortable that i didn't see.

I don't know when you went but they have remodeled in the last year or so. The patio is quite larger and there's more seating inside. All the seats and booths are large and not cramped at all. I do remember those little benches on the patio but they are long gone.

Dakota is totally underrated for good steaks, good wines, and not outrageous prices in a very seductive venue (The Hollywood Roosevelt).
