What are your favorite bars/pubs/lounges to hang out in and grab a casual drink on a cold Chicago winter day?

The Signature Room at the top of the John Hancock Building, for the view.

Another person not adverse to day drinking, I love it!

My favorites in the River North/Near North area are:

Kerryman (Clark and Erie) -- you'll likely catch some Irish expats hanging with the bartenders watching football (soccer to us yanks). It's a modern Irish pub/restaurant.

For a little Pub Crawl you could then walk about 5 blocks to Brehon Pub (Wells and Superior). This is old an school pub with super friendly folks.

Then if you're heading back a little South, a great stopping off point is the Pepper Canister (Wells and Hubbard) also good Irish food and drinks.

But of course if you're at the Pepper Canister and have a hankering for sushi, Sushi Samba Rio is right across the street with a very nice bar/lounge to enjoy. Not sure if the roof deck is open during the day (it's enclosed and winterized), but if so, very nice.

Lux Bar in the Viagra Triangle (Bellevue and Rush) is also nice (good food too)--if the upstairs is open they have a nice fireplace with arm chairs in which to relax.

Signature Room is great for the view, but it's cold and impersonal, not somewhere I like to kick back and have a mid-afternoon cocktail.

      Enjoy!

That is exactly what I was looking for- thanks for the enthusiasm and the wonderful suggestions! I look forward to trying them out. I'll make it a personal challenge to see how many I can fit in. Won't want to have wasted your time.

Yup, just depends on what you're looking for, and whether you want to interact only with companion(s) you brought along, or others around you...

While, I'm originally from Illinois, I only recently moved back to the area from New York and am very out of the loop. I tend to like a bit of everything, so I am taking your advice as well on Friday. I've noticed your very informed posts on many other threads. I'm sorry to have overlooked thanking you too!
