St. Patrick's in N.O.
I will be visiting New Orleans from March 12 through the 15, which happens to be the weekend before St. Patrick's day. Of course, eating and drinking will be a main focus of the trip, and I was wondering if there are any N.O. food/drink traditions related to the holiday. I am interested more in the N.O. aspect than any cliche St. Patty's stuff. I thought I'd reach out to see if there is anything interesting I should know about.

Don't miss Parasol's Restaurant & Bar, corner of Third and Constance Streets for non stop St. Patrick's day drinkin' and carryin' on.
If you haven't seen a St. Joseph's altar, put it on your agenda and be sure to get a "lucky bean".›2 Replies -
Definitely go to the Irish Channel St. Patrick's Day parade (it's listed in the second link in the first reply), if you'll be here then. New Orleans food tradition for St. Patrick's day is that you go to a parade and they throw the makings of corned beef and cabbage from the parade (well, except for the corned beef). Where else can you get a cabbage thrown at you on a holiday? Then you go home and cook corned beef and cabbage from the stuff you caught at the parade (at least that's what I do). The bar Parasol's is where everyone goes on St. Patrick's Day itself, but I don't know what will be going on there the weekend before St. Pat's day.

re: puma
On Saturday night March 14 at 6:00 the Italian community has the St. Joseph Day parade in the French Quarter. It is a lot of fun. I will be there. For St. Joseph's Day people make elaborate alters with food that is distributed to the poor on March 19. The alters are really cool. The food looks really good but I have never actually had any of it.
