Went to Taste last night. Despite a few negatives, we had a really nice time.
I'll start with the negatives:
The inside or outside question. I admit it, I'm LA spoiled. When it's under 75 degrees, I'm looking for a sweater, however, I think I'm not exagerrating to say that lately, it's been cold in this city. Therefore, my SO and I immediately jumped on "indoors please!" I think that was the wrong call, they sat us near the open door frame, with the wind blowing in on us. We probably would have been better on the covered patio near a heat lamp.
Anyway, after 2 glasses of wine, that problem solved itself, so to speak.
Negative 2: My main dish was the mushroom risotto. The rice was undercooked and downright crunchy. Otherwise the dish was not bad, but a little on the bland side.
Onto the positives... everything else. The service was prompt and friendly and professional.
I had the DineLA menu. Other than the main dish, I had the proscuitto, pear, pomegranate see, walnut and goat cheese salad. It was delicious. The simple combinations of the pomegranate seeds with the prosciutto was delectable, bursting sweet and salty. I could have made that salad my whole meal.
For dessert, I had the flourless chocolate cake, which came with a dollop of cream and drizzled with raspberry sauce. I could have used a bit more of the raspberry sauce, personally, but the cake was excellent. Not as heavy as some flourless cakes tend to be.
My SO opted off of the DineLA menu and has yet to stop raving about the Braised Ribs entree he had. Exceptionally tender and the potatos underneath were some of the creamiest I've had. I think he licked the plate.
Regarding the cost, the salad and the risotto would have been approximately the same cost as the prix fixe, so it's basically like getting a free dessert, if you go that route, though you probably save more money if you're ordering the fish entree or meat entree.
Overall, I would recommend it.
